Everyone wants to be number one at something. While setting goals is key to achieving your potential, you need to be realistic about them. This week I came across some advice from Tim Tebow that really resonated with me. He says, setting goals is key to achieving your potential. But you need to be realistic about them. If you admire Lebron James and dream of becoming as good as him, you’ll probably fail at your goal.
Everyone wants to be the best at something. Have you noticed that? They want to be the best student in the whole school; they want to be the best athlete, they want to be the best looking.
The only problem is that there’s only one slot available. So if you’ve got 100 people all vying to be the best, you’re going to have 99 people bitterly disappointed in themselves. It doesn’t have to be that way. Tim Tebow said that you can aim to be the best basketball player in the world, but you’re still most likely not going to beat LeBron James in a game of 1 to one. So you reframe your goal aim: to be your best.
Whether it’s in school or in life, if you do your best, then you’ve succeeded.
