On episode 210, Alexis Avila talks to Todd Weaver, MBA, College Financial Aid Advisor, and Vice President of Strategies for College. Todd specializes in integrating the college selection process within cost management parameters for the families he works with.
On today’s episode Todd gives us his best FAFSA tips to get the most financial aid.
- Tip 1: Know your deadlines. Every college has different deadlines. Research the Financial aid web page for each specific school to get specific deadlines.
- Tip 2: Colleges are asking for two years worth of tax returns, so make sure you get your tax returns together dating back to January 1 of sophomore year.
- Tip 3: Make sure you read the directions carefully and know whose questions you’re answering; student qs vs. parents qs.
- Tip 4. Tip for after you fill out the FAFSA, Make sure you check the summary page after you fill out the FAFSA and check to see how long it takes average graduate to graduate from a school you’re looking into. If it takes six years on average to graduate from a school, then that will cost you a lot more money than a four year school, so reconsider your options if on a budget.
