Our Guest:
Scott Johnston is an entrepreneur (owner of VHS Master, martial artist, toastmaster and motivational speaker. Scott has a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from California State University, Fresno (Fresno State) and has a passion for helping others.
Born three months premature weighing one pound six ounces and diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy he wasn’t given much of a chance to survive let alone thrive. Scott started school in special education and then transitioned to regular education. He was well liked in school, was selected as prom king of his senior prom and graduated from Clovis High School in Clovis, CA as a member of National Honor Society. Scott now uses his story and positivity to speak to students and let them know that if he can make it, they can too!
On today’s episode, Scott tells us about how he overcame his struggles with a physical and learning disability and gives his best college and career advice for students facing challenges.
Scott’s advice for students with a physical or learning disability
Don’t give up and keep fighting. Life with a disability is tough and some people will judge you for it but don’t listen to them and stay positive. Also consider seeing a therapist if you need to talk to someone.

Take a tour of the campus and meet go over her IEP with your advisor in disabilities service center.

Hold on and stay strong. Life is a marathon. Enjoy college and reach out, date and do everything that your able bodied peers are doing.

If you see someone with a disability, don’t be shy, say hi! And don’t be afraid to learn from him or her.
