Sarah Ward is the co-director of cognitive connections, an executive function practice. It’s based out of Concord, Massachusetts. Sarah grew up in Colorado and ended up in Southern California for college. She came out here for her master’s degree at the Institute of Health Professions and received her degree in speech and language pathology. She worked at Mass General Hospital for many years in the inpatient and outpatient traumatic brain injury unit.

Sarah has over 15 years of experience in diagnostic evaluations, treatment, and case management of children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of developmental and acquired brain-based learning difficulties and behavioral problems. Her particular interest is in the assessment and treatment of executive function deficits.

Sarah is a Past President of the Massachusetts Brain Injury Association. She regularly presents locally, nationally, and internationally on the topic of executive functions.

Sarah’s Top 3 EF Strategies for improving executive function skills

Sarah talks to us about executive function disorder and teaches us key strategies for improving executive function skills. Her top 3 EF Strategies are:

  1. Pre-imagine the future and a dress rehearsal for your day
  2. Use an analog time clock so you can see time as a volume.
  3. Follow OHIO (Only Handle It Once). Finish a task and see it through to completion so you don’t have to go back to it a second or third time.
