On this tutoring tips episode #113, AP Instructor Anooj shows you how how to get a 5 on the AP Government and Politics Exam. Anooj got a 5 on his AP Government and Politics Exam, so pay close attention to these tips!
Tip #1: Content Review
Get your hands on a Princeton Review or Barron’s test prep book and start going through the content. Remember most of the content you’ve already learned through your course. So you’re going through this test prep book you want to go through very, very fast; you don’t want to spend too much time getting bogged down on the little details; you can work those out later on when you’re practicing.
Tip #2: Flashcards
I’m a big fan of flashcards because they allow you to actively recall. In this case, you will be writing down in your flashcards – people, different court cases, events, laws, amendments, and all the AP government terms you will have in there. Focus on building these while you’re taking your course and, if your course is already over while doing the content review.
Tip #3: Multiple Choice & Free Response Practice
You will get the multiple-choice questions primarily from your test prep book companies. In those prep books, go through all the multiple-choice questions as much as you can. This is where you want to spend the majority of your time studying the practice. So, for every question you get wrong, or even if you get right and there’s something within the question you don’t remember, build a flashcard. Go through your prep book and look for that specific item that you do not understand, and try to get better at diagnosing what you don’t know.
