Do: Put yourself in social situations so you can practice getting along with others.

The summertime is definitely a time when a lot of children can slack off and lose some of that mental sharpness that they gained during the school year. So here are some things that you can try to ensure that your child stays mentally crisp during the summer.

Do’s

One thing you want to try is to have your children participate in mental and physical activities, as well as a well-rounded amount of activity. So get them involved with some athletic camps, take them to the science museum, and have them get involved with arts and crafts activities. If they need to reinforce principles and concepts learned during the school year in the upcoming school year, give them some academic enrichment tutoring.

Don’ts

One thing I recommend that you don’t have your child do is sit in front of a television set and play video games all day and isolate himself. He needs to get outside, interact with peers, and practice becoming a team player. This is very important and will help build healthy self-esteem and confidence. Get him involved with healthy mental activities like reading a little bit each day. He can read books that he wants to read, he prefers to read, and also books from the summer reading list.

So practice some of these summer activities to prevent Summer Brain Slide, and I guarantee your child will be in for a great upcoming school year.

I’ll talk to you soon.
