A lot of students get nervous about tests. Here are five tips for you that will help you maintain confidence and composure on test day

Tip #1

Come prepared so you don’t have to worry during the test. Make sure that you study for the test, have some tutoring, and also bring the necessary equipment to the test like some sharpener, pencils, calculator, and admission ticket. Get to the site test early.

Tip #2

Make sure that you take care of your body, your mind will follow. So, on the morning of the test, make sure you have a breakfast devoid of high-fatty foods. High-fatty foods tend to slow you down, and you don’t want to feel slowed down during a test.

Tip #3

Make sure you respect your break time. On most standardized tests, you’ll get two, maybe even three breaks, so you don’t want to wander in the hall and fill yourself with negative talk. During breaks, you want to occupy yourself with some snacks like protein bars and have some water.

Tip #4

During a test, if you get stumped on something, circle the problem, move on, and go back at the end if you have time for the circled problems. The test is a marathon, not a sprint. So don’t get bogged down on any one problem.

Tip #5

Watch your self-talk. Make sure that you give yourself positive self-talk, not negative unrealistic self-talk. So don’t insult yourself when something goes wrong; instead, say I can get the next one, you’re doing a great job, and you’re doing the best you can. So work on your self-talk and work on these five tips, and I guarantee you’ll be more confident on test day.
